The start for the 2008 Howl at the Moon is only hours away
Greg Yetter / 20.10.2007

At 1500 41 teams will take the challenge of this Howl at the Moon from Adventurous Concepts. Over 100 racers will be spread out among the teams including 5 soloist, of which 1 is female. This group is a good mix of veteran and novice racers looking to test their mettle against a course designed to be completed in 12 to 18 hours, with the lead teams possibly finishing in 10-12 hours. The course is not too difficult as long as teams watch their maps and keep a sharp eye out for landmarks, but remember this race is run for the most part in the dark. The race course will utilize the Twin Rivers State Park, Suwannee State Park and the Holton Creek WMA. The race begins with a prolog run to help spread out the field. Racers can expect to cover 18-20 miles on foot, 20-25 miles on bikes and 12-17 miles paddling. These distances are the most direct routes; teams that deviate from the expected route will most definitely cover more distance. The water levels of the Suwannee River are more accommodating thanks to the recent rainfall in the area. The weather for the race is expected to be partly cloudy with good temps for racing.
Stay tuned for a mid race report and photos to be posted later this evening on SleepMonsters.us.See All Event Posts
