Six Hours Into The Race And Field Begins To Spread Out

Greg Yetter / 22.10.2007See All Event Posts Follow Event
With the first 6 hours of the race complete the racers are spread out with some still on the trekking section and others already having begun the paddle section. Team Travel Country began the paddle section at 1902, a benefit of some excellent route choices. At 2100 13 teams have begun the paddle section of the race, with 28 teams still not having reached the boat put-in. With darkness fallen navigation will become more challenging for those on the trekking section and even more so for those paddling. Shallow water sections and sand bars lurk around every bend in the river and the Check Points will be even more elusive.

No teams have dropped out of the race at this time and all teams are on track to finish in the proscribed time. The teams I saw out on the trekking section were in great spirits and looking forward to finishing the race. Since the sun went down the temps are falling and there is a humid chill in the air. Teams are glad that the race director had the river swim at the first of the race, as they were able to use the time on the run to dry off before darkness set in. After the paddle teams will make their way back to the Start/Finish Area and transition to their bikes.

More information will be posted in the morning as communications are spotty and the manned check points are limited. Check back in the morning for more information as it becomes available.See All Event Posts
