Team Orion Health Battling for the Lead
Lynne Oxenham / Team Orion Health / 23.10.2007

SleepMonsters do not have one of our regular international race reporters at Ecomotion, but we will do our best to provide coverage with the help of some friends, competitors and our Brazilian Editor, Wladimir Togumi. If news is a bit sketchy please bear with us!This report is courtesy of the support crew of New Zealand’s Team Orion Health: www.orionadventure.com
Reporting from CP3, midway on the first bike section
So here\'s a brief summary of some stuff that we actually know happened! Will try to stick to the facts but that\'s proving to be a wee bit tricky in amongst the endless rumours! ;o)
The kayak took about the expected time but didn\'t go all smoothly. Orionhealth , Merrell and a Brazilian team were aparently leading the pack (despite Wayne and Brent fairly thoroughly testing the buoyancy capacity of the craft!) ... and then ...
Checkpoint (CP) 1 was not in the correct place. It was a little way up a side creek but not the right one and so they continued on to CP2 where they informed the race staff of the problem. Meanwhile team Sole and team 14 made their way to CP1 and then Sole (not sure what happened to the others who seem to have gotten themselves well lost) arrived, at least partially, via an overland route ... dragging their kayaks with them!
The teams apparently arrived not too far apart at CP2 and didn\'t seem too phased by the error in the first CP placement although we\'re sure it wasn\'t the best scenario for them or the Race Director who we\'re sure would like to have had a better score sheet by this point!
After dropping the bikes for the teams at the end of the kayak we drove on and spent the rest of the night in our tent pitched next to a busy main highway ...
The morning saw both misty cloud veiling the stunningly dramatic \"fingers of god\" - steep rocky mountains and endless rumours about potential race developments floating about the incredibly busy TA.See All Event Posts
