The final stretch...
Lynne Oxenham / Team Orion Health / 25.10.2007

This report is courtesy of the support crew of New Zealand’s Team Orion Health: www.orionadventure.comAfter a pretty good sleep of at least 6 hours we woke Orionhealth and told them that they needed to jump up and get ready to complete the final stage of the race ... 26km kayak to Buzios.
They were all up and organised pretty smartly although locating some of the gear they wanted was a bit of a challenge at times as quite a lot of their clothes etc are now in various black rubbish bags ... \"semi wet dirty stinky stuff\" bags, \"wet dirty stinky stuff\" bags, \"really wet dirty & stinky stuff\" bags and the occasional infamous \"please PLEASE don\'t make me open this\" bag! ;o)
Sails were attached to the kayaks which were carefully selected again to try to make the paddling trouble-free. We had a good laugh when the first \"yes this looks good\" kayak that was picked out had one of our glowsticks on it from the first leg! Amazing that we\'d picked out exactly the same vessel :o)
30min after we cheered Orionhealth on their way Sole left. Marcel and team were all in good spirits as they sorted out their boats. Paul called out to Orionhealth at one point before they left \"How did you like those trolleys ... I\'m going to get myself one when I get home !\" :o) Marcel borrowed a pair of Brent\'s cycle gloves for the paddle and was sporting a bit of a scraped nose when I took them to him ... He said he\'d bashed into a vine somewhere along the way.
Next off the shore with their kayaks kitted out with their sails was Bjurfors from Sweden. We didn\'t really chat to these guys as we were very busy packing up our things.
The bikes are in a shocking state ... not so much dirty (which they are of course!) but full of harsh grit in the brakes etc which makes them creak, grind and scrape as they move (not quite sure how to describe the worst sounds I\'ve ever heard from a bike just being pushed along!). They are generally complaining very loudly about their treatment on that last short bike ride to the pre-kayak \"holding pen\".See All Event Posts
