Buff Coolmax wins Ecomotion Pro 2007
Togumi / 25.10.2007

Heavy rain, wind and thunder marked the final stages of the race, as the first teams crossed the finish line in Praia dos Ossos (Bones Beach), the end of the journey of Ecomotion/Pro 2007. The Spanish warriors Buff Coolmax, after facing a dangerous sea, arrived first and took the honours at the greatest adventure race in Latin America, followed by French team Wilsa Helly Hansen. The two teams completed the journey in the early hours of Thursday (October 25). Oskalunga Sundown from the city of Brasilia, was the first Brazilian team to make the beach, finishing in seventh position.
\"I felt very scared, there was nothing to see but the waves rising to four meters. It was frightening! But quitting is a word that is not part of my vocabulary. It was worthwhile, I am happy I came and even more so to be in the first place\", said Emma Roca, team captain of Buff, who also won Ecomotion/Pro 2005.
The weather conditions during the night hampered the competitors in the last leg of paddling with incessant wind and the storm creating a very rough sea. Buff turned on the radio, but they recovered and continued towards the finish line. Because of the weather, the organization of the event declared a dark zone (pause in the race for security reasons) at PC 25 for all but the top two teams, who had already left.
\"It was very cold and the wind didn`t stop, but we kept focused and we got to the beach and got the second place,\" said Karine Baillet, captain of Wilsa, who was second and was the last team to face the final 26 km before the dark zone.
The race was resumed at 5h00 this Thursday (October 25) and the teams that had been stopped were restarted, keeping the time difference they arrived at the PC with. OrionHealth (New Zealand) came in third, followed by USA\'s Team Sole. Bjurfors Adventure Racing, from Sweden, came in fifth and Team Merrell, from New Zealand were sixth.See All Event Posts
