EcoMotion Pro
Race is not over yet for the rest of the pack
27.10.2007

The first teams completed Ecomotion Pro 2007 early Thursday morning, but the race has not been closed. The rest of the participants continue to arrive at Praia dos Ossos, completing their passage of this 444 km route.Team Saracura was the first one to arrive after the closure of the Dark Zone established in the PC25 (start of final paddling section). Teams that were forced to spend the night in the PC to ensure the safety of athletes during the crossing, left every 15 minutes throughout the day and were awaited by the organization at the arrival.
\"The race is always difficult, but the challenges were made up for by the incredible landscapes, especially the mountain trekking, the tracks and some impressive places,\" said Pablo Lopez, team Gallaecia Bugarent. \"For us, the worst part was the first trekking, because anly arrived at the ropes at sunset. We took a long time to find the last rope and had to stop for several hours. \"
Also arriving at the finish line were teams that were cut or that were declassified for any reason, but still remained in the course.
\"This was the toughest race that we\'ve done. We had a small problem with the boats at the start, and we missed the tide going out and we ended stuck in the mud, with other 30 teams. We then lost 3 to 4 hours searching for PC1 and only to find out that it was in the wrong place. While doing that we lost our map in the water, so day 1 was a long one and forced us to miss the first cut-off\", said Sean Verret , Team Lost in Transition from Canada.
But winning is just part of the race for some teams. Many of them just participate to have fun and see how far they can go. In the case of the Brazilian team Guascor Paradofobia, a good rest was very important. The team had experienced difficulties during the first stage of canoeing. One of their boats sank and they lost about 3 hours until they could continue in the race. Following were periods where they were stopped due to Dark Zones. In one of those stops, noting that they had not succeeded in making the cut-off, they decided to stop at a Bed&Breakfast place, coming back to the course in the next morning.
The cut-off of the race is noon on Saturday, and the last five team made a new start together of PC25 after the closure of the Dark Zone. The expectation is that it will take about 6 hours to complete the section of canoeing and close the race.
Later today, the closing ceremony and exbition the official video of the race will take place.See All Event Posts
