November 2nd (Day 2)

As day 2 started, the weather improved, and along with it so did the participants’ mood. The teams raced all day with a lot of energy.

They advanced towards the beautiful Antisana volcano and the eastern highlands of the Ecuadorian Andes. During the day, teams covered a great distance with many altitude variations. The altutude troubled some teams.

The kayaking section started in CP11. Participants were arriving there from 6:00 until 19:00. The first surprise was that team #1 (Shick Xtreme 3 Teva from Spain) retired because one of the team members had high altitude sickness. All groups from the Adventure category and teams number 9, 11 and 6 from the Experts category had to be relocated from CP 11 to CP 16 for not making time cut-offs at CPs 11 and 12.

Only 9 teams passed CP 12, where a night-long trekking begun. Team #3 (Bosi Colombia) retired here because of trouble with the high altitude, cold temperatures and physical exhaustion.See All Event Posts
