Ushuaia is where you go when you are ready to jump off the edge of the Earth. Competitors and staff have been arriving on a variety of flights which bump their way through the low cloud cover over Ushuaia, which sits resolutely between the snow clad mountains and the wind blown white caps of The Drake Passage. Some stomachs are already twitching in anticipation of the crossing to Antarctica today. This will be Dr. Brian's first test!

The heart breaking news is that as a result of cancelled and delayed flights, Gary Johnson, will not make it to Ushuaia in time and will not be able to participate in this year's Last Desert. Ben Fergusson has also had to pull out at the eleventh hour due to work commitments. After enduring so much together in three of the 4 Deserts they will be greatly missed by their fellow competitors.

In a foretaste of what lies ahead in the White Continent it is already snowing in Ushuaia. Ishihara-san of Japan has already tested his capacity to handle these conditions with a run around the streets. Others have thought it more prudent to fortify themselves with Argentinian beef.

Today, the last competitors arrive and we go on board the ship for the launch of another 4 Deserts expedition!See All Event Posts
