Dynamic Adventure Racing Challenge
A Rookie Adventure
Scott Munro / 14.03.2008

This was my rookie event and I was understandably a little nervous. My preconceptions centred on the ability and fitness of the other competitors, with their single-minded approach to gaining maximum points. The reality was something altogether different. The venue was easy to find, loads of parking and the unmistakable banners telling you ‘you have arrived’. Into the village hall to be met by Nicky and Simon, a little friendly advice on which way to hold the map – pointing in the right way up is a good place to start, and how to plan a route with ‘get outs’ noted along the way.
The run event was my confidence boost, the weather was just about perfect, the sun warmed us up and the views across the Dorset countryside were spectacular. I found my checkpoints without too much fuss or time wasted routing in the undergrowth. I was a happy competitor. I returned to the village hall with 5 minutes to spare and 260 points under my belt.
Next job, 3 hours mountain bike ride. I have to admit to not feeling very confident on this stage; my lack of experience on the bike had me a little worried. The clouds came over as we had our kit checked and waterproofs went on and stayed on. At some point my fears went, I don’t know when but I was 45 minutes in with a couple of check points visited, and on this muddy, claggy track and caught myself grinning from ear to ear covered in grime looking over rolling hills. Marvellous. See All Event Posts
