VOtwo Dirty Double Adventure Race
Itchen Park Dirty Double
Press Release / 21.03.2008

Having rained almost solidly in the 24hrs preceding the event it was definitely going to be a wet one with half of the run course (aptly named ‘The Bog’) taking place on a flood plain! 40+ Teams of 3 competitors took the start at 10am in driving rain to complete a run/bike/run/bike/run/assault course format requiring a combination of teamwork, fitness, determination and Gorilla dodging skills to get round successfully.
On the initial short run leg team Bike Magic (Mike Davis, Carl Silverton and Chris Williams) showed that they meant business striding (or was it wading?) into a significant lead. This proved to be a sign of things to come as they held this onto the bike and then as they attacked the first of 2 passes through ‘The Bog.’
For the ladies the triathlon specialists Thames Turbo (Sarah-Anne Mcleod, Kate Biddulph and Helen Smith) were in control from early on, this despite the fact that one of their number was riding a bike with no front brake pads……’I’d better take it in for a service after this one then’ was probably quote of the day from the guilty party...
With other teams slipping, sliding and sinking into the mud and water it was coming down to a 3 horse race in the open competition with Bike Magic holding onto a slender lead as they approached the final assault course with Team Speares (Britney sadly did not attend) and ‘We Don’t Do Hills’ metaphorically breathing down their necks.
