Finally, some details about the route:

At a team meeting on the beach this morning, Paul and Karen gave an overview of the course. Teams still won’t get the exact course details and maps until later today.

A brisk 30 knot wind was shaking the sponsors’ banners so loudly that they had to shout to be heard. “It’s a big bad piece of land, and it’s not gonna be easy getting around it, Paul warned. “In the three years this race has been going on, this is our toughest route yet.

He emphasized how important teamwork will be, and how they want every team to make it all the way to the finish. “This is a point-to-point race. There is no short course. There is no transport between sections. Quitting is not allowed, we want you all to get there. If you need to, take a break, take a nap, but don’t quit. You’ve come a long way to get here and race, not to drive to the finish line.

The race will start at 11:30 tomorrow morning – the somewhat late start being due to the big Baja tides. There will be no water to paddle in any earlier than that! If the onshore wind that is howling today keeps up, tomorrow’s paddleboard section will be a definite challenge, with both wind and waves coming broadside to the very lightweight and high-riding boards.See All Event Posts
