High-technology allows live tracking of racers...

While racers will be allowed to use only traditional navigational methods (map and compass, using the substantial topography around here to locate), the world will be able to follow Baja Travesia through the most advanced of technologies.

Teams will be carrying two different GPS units that will track them throughout the race. These do not display any information that will allow competitors to locate themselves, but they send signals out to headquarters about team location.

One is a SPOT Tracker unit that racers activate at each checkpoint or waypoint, which will provide live tracking in real time, displayed both on the leaderboard and on maps. To view team progress, click on our SleepMonsters leaderboard (to the left of the race reports screen) or view the data on the map on the Baja Travesia site at www.bajatravesia.com.

The other is the GISTEQ Photo Trackr Lite, a constantly updating GPS unit, to provide detailed tracking of the exact route that each team takes. This information will be downloaded at the end of the race, and can be viewed as a movie on the Baja Travesia site. This will be very interesting to review after the fact, to see how route-picking and navigation (or lack of it) affect team progress.See All Event Posts
