Baja Travesia 2008
Day 3: What, hairy ocean paddling conditions on the Baja Travesia?
Jacqueline Windh / 27.03.2008

Day 4, 7:30 amShivering with cold from the all-night trek and the pre-dawn bike ride, the two DART teams got changed into their wetsuits. Jen and Mari were all suited up, waiting for the boys to get caught up. “Yup, hurry up and wait, sighed Jen.
By now it was light enough to see that there was big surf raging at this beach, just 8 km from the Finish in downtown Ensenada. A big wide zone of curling closed-out breakers, with the big sets easily 8’ in height. This is not only no fun in sit-on-tops, it is nearly impossible to get out through a surf zone this wide without knee-braces. All you need is one wave to hit you and you get thrown from the boat. Tough enough to play in on a sunny afternoon... but arriving already chilled and sleep-deprived, well, it’s sure not fun.
These guys are so brave – despite how impossible it looked they just suited up and went. Now travelling as 6, they took three doubles (rather than the one double and one single per team that a team alone would have had) – Glenn and Mari, and Jen and Rinn charged ahead, while Cyril and Sean hung back.
