Baja Travesia 2008
Day 4: A tight race between Yoga Slackers and ExtremeSports.dk for third
Jacqueline Windh / 28.03.2008

Day 4, 8:00 pmYoga Slackers have been moving strongly and consistently throughout this race, and up until the end seemed secure to take third.
But ExtremeSports.dk would have none of that. Last I saw them, at the top of the Sierra at midday on Day 2, Mikael and Helena were suffering from jet lag and were begging Rick for an hour’s sleep. But this team has just been marching forward on the field, and today, those two were wielding the whip!
Yoga Slackers were third team into TA8 at the Hot Springs, after a long and gruelling trek down the canyon, arriving at 4:43 pm on Day 4. They looked to be in pretty good shape, and went for a transition that was efficient and organized, but not rushed.
No sooner had they ridden out than Mikael, Helena and Rick came running in. Helena was on her bike within minutes, and Mikael was on it trying to rush Rick out of there, as Rick made sure he had the new directions to the changed kayak put-in down before they set out. They knew that third place was in sight for them, and they were in and out of there so fast!
Word from the front is that the finish was heart-stopping. ExtremeSports.dk made up the 15 or so minutes they needed to catch Yoga Slackers by the finish line (since the DART surf episode, the new route now has teams biking to the surf beach then hiking 4 or so km to a new, more protected kayak put-in, then paddling another 4 km to the finish in Ensenada). The two teams approached the finish together in a full sprint – Mikael and Helena were first across, but the Yoga Slackers were the first complete team across to take third, with Rick pushing hard just metres behind. Congrats to all – that’s some really hard work at the end of a long and challenging race!See All Event Posts
