Bimbache Extrem Castilla y Leon
Day 1 - Run, Skate, Trek, Kayak, Bike. Anything else?...
Pyro / 13.05.2008

Day one of the race began with a very civilised breakfast in the hotel, teams preparing and presenting their kit boxes and then a bus ride to the historic city of Segovia, where the race would start. Gathering under the kilometre-long Roman aquaduct, the teams were given the details of the first stage of the race, which had been missing from the routebooks presented to them last night. They would begin with a score-format, orienteering stage around the city comprising nine controls on historic or notable monuments. However, In place of the old orienteering-style punch and card which will be used for the rest of the race, for each checkpoint there was a question about the relevant monument which would have to be answered, and time penalties would be issued for incorrect answers or missed monuments.
The teams all completed this stage, with an estimated optimum route length of 9km, in around about an hour, leaving the city once they had gathered all their answers and heading to Transition 1 to don their rollerblades for the first skating section.
