Florida Coast to Coast Adventure Race
The 9th Florida Coast to Coast Is Set To Start 0600 Friday Morning
Greg Yetter / 22.05.2008

With the start of the race less than 24 hours away teams have begun arriving in Cocoa Beach for registration and gear check. After all the teams have checked in they will have the evening to get their kits together and plan their strategy. The number one thing on all the racers minds will be the heat. It wouldn’t be a Florida Coast to Coast without the ever present heat and humidity, it is Florida after all. This year unlike last, the wildfires in the state will hopefully not force course alterations. Veterans of the race know that with Elias Jimenez and Dennis Godber setting the course little else is needed to make it an epic race. Weather conditions for the start of the race should be OK for racing. Morning temperatures are expected to be in the low 70’s, humidity will be in the mid 80% and light rain showers. As the day progresses the temperatures will climb to mid 80’s and the chances of rain will remain all day.
The race will begin with a beach run on Cocoa Beach. Racers will then get a chance to rest their legs with the first kayak section of the race. Don’t ask for the distances or directions, I can’t give away all the surprises. The race is designed to be near 290 miles of running, biking and paddling. Of course some teams may lengthen that distance with their route choices.
All teams are being provided with SPOT Satellite Personal Tracker so you at home can follow your favorite teams. And SleepMonsters will be on hand to cover the entire race from start to finish. Be sure to check back often for position updates of the teams, as well as photos and race reports each day.See All Event Posts
