Saab Salomon have taken back the ‘maillot jeune’ from day 1 leader Nike/Beaver Creek, after a stunning performance on the glacier trek, taking over 15 minutes lead over Spain’s Salomon Santiveri 1, who lead the USA’s Nike by 4 minutes.

In the Mixed teams, Lafuma Sport 2000 Vibram (France) sit 9th overall, leading Quechua Compagnie des Alpes 2 (12th), with Cateye Outdoor Experiences (14th) in third. For the all-female teams, the battle is a closer one, with the UK’s Inov-8 just one place (and 20 points in the MXR scoring system) above the Salomon Crested Butte ladies. Inov-8 had yet another fantastic result in the evening’s trail run, Anna Frost taking the win and Chryl Frost sneaking past Myriam Guillot of Lafuma in the last 50 metres to take second. With Heather Dawe coming in fourth, these girls have shown themselves to be a force to be reckoned with over the trails.

After the Day 2 trail run, a 6km, mainly downhill trail, a number of teams were suffering the exertions of the day, none more so than New Zealand’s Orion Health.com. Wayne Oxenham was taken to a local hospital with ankle issues, suspected at the worst to be broken. He returned during dinner with the good news that it is only tissue damage, but it could still cause problems for the rest of the week. His teammate Anna Berthelsen also has one of her ankles heavily taped, her only remarks were that she wasn’t sure it made her legs look particularly ‘lady-like’.
