Racing in teams of four over two days of competition they covered 250km of varied terrain showcasing the region’s best natural features as they navigated their way by foot, mountain bike, ocean/river paddling and some roping activities.

After taking over the lead in the early in day 1, Insignia Adventure Racers (Richard Elderfield, Stephen Mundell, Sally Newmarch, Sean O’Neill) never looked back. Perth locals, all with impressive and varied sporting backgrounds, combined their skills with good team work to be the only team to complete the entire extremely challenging course. After racing for 17 hours on day and finally reaching camp Quaranup at 12.30am, they admitted that the course proved longer and more challenging than they had anticipated. The final leg of the day, a 23km ski paddle that was predominantly in the churning ocean was lit only by the torches on their heads. Coupled with strong winds, they were very pleased to reach dry land and be able to release their hands from their paddles and stretch their legs.
