With a $3,000 prize purse and the Lee Campbell Memorial Award on offer, it was always going to be a hard run race. Mountain Designs went out hard at the start and held onto the lead before crossing the finish line in first place in a time 4 hours and 35 minutes.In what was always going to be a special day, and it was a great privilege once again to present the Lee Campbell Memorial Award. Lee was the Teva Brand Manager, and for those of you who were lucky enough to meet big Lee at the 2006 series, you will agree that he was a man who had a passion for life and the people around him, wherever he was. This made it even harder for those close to him when we lost Lee suddenly and unexpectedly in February last year.
We would like to thank Lee’s family for donating this very special award and Lee’s uncle for making and donating the beautiful trophy which will proudly carry Lee’s name in the year’s to come. It was also a great honour to have Lee’s girlfriend Lana and his Mum & Dad, Ned & Jill at the event and to present the award.
With beautiful Sunshine Coast providing the backdrop for the event and recent rain clearing as the sun rose over Ewen Maddock Dam it seemed the Gods were smiling down on us as we hit the ground for the first challenge of the day.
