San José, Costa Rica:- Registration for the 2008 La Ruta de los Conquistadores was officially closed on Wednesday, October 29th by the Customer Services Chief, Erick Esquivel.“Now we have the final start list. More than 400 people are registered for the event so I think we will have a nice 16th edition of La Ruta, with plenty of emotion and hard competition�, Esquivel said.
The total field of participants for this year’s race is 430, including racers, companions, local and international media representatives. 384 riders from 30 different countries will compose the competitors’ group.
There will be 143 local racers and 261 foreigners. The split men/women remains in the usual average of 85%-15%.
The Master A category (30-39 years) is the most populated with 130 registered riders, while the Open Men (Elite) will present around 90 competitors.
Course marking was also finished this week. Checkpoints Coordinator, Hugo Alvarado, along with Course Leader and Race Founder, Roman Urbina, completed the 386 kilometers in seven days.
“The course is ready and waiting for the Conquistadors. Although it has been a really rainy season the muddy sections seem to be in pretty good shape. However, that’s something about La Ruta ... yYou never know!. It might change from one day to another�, Alvarado affirmed.
La Ruta de los Conquistadores 2008 will kick-off at the Best Western Jacó Beach resort on November 12, at an early 5:00 a.m. chequered flag.See All Event Posts
