XPD Expedition
Day 2 Report
Geocentric Outdoors / 21.11.2008

These teams were heading out on the 83 kilometre trek from Harrietville to Ryders Bridge via Mount Feathertop, Falls Creek and Mount Bogong. The first teams to reach the halfway point at Falls Creek were in good spirits but said the trek had been tough going and was likely to take a toll on later teams.By 2pm only four teams had made it through to the checkpoint at Falls Creek with Blackheart/Salomon passing through at 11:37am, Blackheart.com.au at 12:11pm, Tangerine at 1:33pm and Bull of Africa at 1:38pm. Meanwhile, many teams were still making their way into the Harrietville transition on their mountains bikes after having to walk up a 1000 metre ascent. For these teams it was beginning to become a race against time as they needed to arrive at the next transition in daylight to be abe to start the kayak leg and avoid treking a further 30 kilometers to Keegan’s Bridge.
As adverse conditions continued and with teams yet to begin the trek, the decision was made to implement a short-course for the back half of the field. This required teams to climb to the checkpoint at Mount Feathertop then continue along The Razorback to Mount Beauty and on to the transition at Ryders Bridge. The short-course affected 14 teams while 16 continued along the full course.
