Serre Poncon Obligatory Rest Stop

Anne-Marie Dunhill / 01.06.2009See All Event Posts Follow Event
The first teams have arrived at the obligatory rest stop on the shores the mountain lake Serre-Poncon and have met their assistants for the first time since the start of the race.

After a minimum three hours rest they are off for a moonlit kayak section. This transition has been a hive of activity all afternoon as the teams\' assistants rushed around to prepare a cozy greeting for their crew. Meals were cooked, gear sorted out and tents pitched. No one is sure when their teams will arrive so it will be a long night.

The assistants had a ball on the lake earlier in the afternoon as they were responsible for delivering the kayaks across the lake. At 16:45 I was lucky enough to cross paths with the lead team at this point, Quechua, who were heading out across the lake. Dodgy kayak driving skills meant that it was almost a head-on encounter but I managed a quick interview on the water. They were relaxed and smiling and called out that they were loving the race and going strong. When Cateye Outdoor Adventure arrived at the kayak transition their faces were blank and they gave the impression of not being pleased to have lost their lead.

Back to my assistance zone to wait for the team.
