Fabulous day at Bucklers Hard

The stunning venue of Bucklers Hard in the New forest hosted the ‘Shock Absorber Every Womans Duathlon’ for the first time on Saturday the 4th of July. With 160 entrants, many of whom had never competed in a duathlon before, all enjoying a fantastic day. OK, the heavens opened up for 30 minutes, but after such searing midweek temperatures it was a welcome cool off for all of the women.The race started after the entire field were put through a choreographed warm up routine by the Sarah Hart Fitness girls to get the blood flowing and ease the nerves. The field was set off in two waves, two minutes apart, with the overall winner Anna Buckingham coming from the second wave. Congratulations Anna, on a very fast time.
Besides the gradual climb back up to the bike transition area, the 2.5km run was fast and flat, taking in the views over the Beaulieu River and terrain through the New Forest National Park.
After the morning downpour the slippery roads were making the 10km cycle route more of a challenge. The 3 lap circuit was also relatively flat, but with the rain effecting conditions there were 3 fallers, all of whom are OK and looking forward to finishing next year. A massive thank you to the ladies who took time to help each other out. That’s the spirit of the event.
The last transition was back to the run route for another lap of the 2.5km circuit. Although the hill climb to finish was tough, there were a lot of smiling and proud faces crossing the finish line.
The sun came out after all, and with tales of adventure and achievement filling the air, the spirited competitors wearing a well earned event medal and shopping bag in hand, rewarded themselves with a BBQ and ice cream at the Master Builders Hotel garden overlooking the river.
A successful event is never possible without all the support from our marshals and sponsors. Many of our marshals travelled from London to help out on the day. We would like to extend a big thank you for all your help, as do I’m sure all the competitors.
