Over 450 competitors were poised on the start line on Sunday 19th September travelling from around Australia and New Zealand to compete in the event which included a 1.9km river and ocean swim, 13km ocean and river paddle 12.5km Keen Footwear Adventure Run and 18km Tanita Mountain Bike.

The event started with the 1.9 km swim in Currumbin Alley where spectators had a great opportunity to view the action at a turn-around point as the swimmers made their way out of the estuary. The water conditions were terrific and it was possibly a little bit hot for everyone, with temperatures of 28 to 30 degrees. The first swimmer to exit the water was Anthony Brewin in a time of 24.42, a minute ahead of his closest rival. Hayley Bateup also had a terrific swim, she was the first female to exit the water in 27:44.
Paddlers then departed from Currumbin Alley heading towards the Tallebudgera creek, then up the river for a further 8km. The conditions for the paddle were good with minimal swell and wind, Hayley Bateup was firing in the paddle with a time of 1:16:17 in her lead up to Coolangatta Gold next month.
