The Original Mountain Marathon
The First Winners Arrive
Rob Howard / 25.10.2009

10.45; Finish at Llanwrthwl village. The first pairs arrived at the finish line just after 10.30 on Sunday morning. The weather remains blustery with heavy showers, interspersed with bright sunshine, and they arrived in one of the sunny intervals to run down through a forest plantation from the last control and along a farm track into the finish field.
First over the line were team 1795, Matt Dickson and Jon Street, but it is unlikely they are going be winners as they were competing in the short Score and had arrived 30 minutes early. "We really overcooked it today," said Dickson, "It was all a lot more runnable than we expected, but it's still great to be first back!"
Next to arrive were Matt Chapman and Richard Phillips, the winners of the C class. They set off first this morning with a 30 minute lead and reported not seeing anyone chasing them during the day. "We had a great day, hitting all the controls," said Chapman. "This is the first time we've run a fixed line course as we've raced Score before ." Looking down at a bloody knee he added, "I was fine all day then at the last farm gate I stacked it completely!" He was still smiling however.
Teams are starting to come through more regularly now and are being kit checked at the finish, then directed to the village hall where tea is available while they wait for the first bus to fill up.See All Event Posts
