Malaysian Team Takes Stage Two

<b>IPOH, PERAK. December 3, 2009</b> – The Malaysian team of Mohd Puzi Dolah and Heidilee Mohammad bagged the top spot in the second leg of the Perak Amanjaya International Eco Adventure 2009 today in the gruelling 60-kilometre trail from Taiping to Kuala Sepatang.

The pair now moves up to second place in the overall standing of 16 teams from 15 countries after the second leg. They came in sixth yesterday and hope to keep the momentum to outperform the other competitors in the next stage of the eco-race after a rest day tomorrow.

The outstanding performance by the Malaysian team which goes by the name “Salomon TLDM� did not come easy after a poor start in first inline skating discipline where they emerged in ninth spot.

They caught up with the leaders following the next two disciplines of trekking and abseiling, moving up to third spot. From there, the duo went on to take the pole position in the kayaking and continued into the final discipline of running to finish the entire race in a time of 4 hours 46 minutes and 24 seconds.

The second place was won by the mixed pair from Sweden under the team Worldofmultisport.com. who came in at 4:46:54, a close 30 seconds behind the Malaysian team. Meanwhile, the third spot was won by Team YogaSlackers, a combined pair from USA and New Zealand in 4:51:10.

The top three winners for the second leg received their prizes from Datuk Mahmud Murshidi, District Officer of Larut, Matang and Selama.

Two teams failed to complete the second leg within the stipulated time. They were C1 Mongolia and the all-ladies combined team of Pink Panthers from United Kingdom and Italy.

The second leg for the Perak Amanjaya International Eco Adventure 2009 was flagged off by Encik Mohd Zahir Abdul Khalid, Chairman, State Committee for Education and Higher Education, Science and Technology Perak in Taiping.

The endurance race athletes will next move to Ipoh for the 32 kilometre trail from Sungai Kampar to Gua Tempurung on Saturday. They will test their skills against nature in the third leg which involves abseiling, mountain-biking, white water rafting, running and caving.
