Australia on Top. Can we win, YES WE CAN

Adventure Racing in Australia has gone from strength to strength and in past years Aussies have graced podiums across the globe in a smattering of teams.

AROC turned the AR World upside down at Primal Quest and made the world's media realize we don’t sit around drinking beer playing footy and surfing all day. The Aussies have continued to race with each other and infiltrate teams across the globe; names like Tom Landon-Smith, Alina Mcmaster, John Jacoby, Novak Thompson, Jane Hall and Nigel Aylott (who unfortunately passed away racing), helped shape the sport as we know it.

In more recent years names like Gary Sutherland, Doug May and Guy Andrews, Matt Blundell, Toby Cogley and Rosi King have spread the word on the international circuit that the Aussies are a force to be reckoned with.

Aussies have featured in races through the US and Europe, in Abu Dhabi, New Zealand and New Caledonia, even venturing into the Arctic, but it is at home where they hone their skills and fuel their passions. Being so isolated from the rest of the world and at the mercy of often huge travel costs, aussies love their own backyard and never miss an opportunity to get out there.

The names above could certainly hold their own still and have by no means slowed down, but there are new names popping up, the only hurdle to the international stage being major sponsors. Guys and girls like Rob Preston, Damon Goerke, Kim Willocks, Josh Street, Hugh Stoddart, Richard Mountstephens, Katrin Van de Speigel, Chris Thompson, Kim Beckinsale, Jarad Kohlar and Christie Sym are certainly making their mark on the sport and will no doubt continue to do so.
