XPD Australia
Five Have Finished, 33 Still on the Course
Steve Cooper - SleepMonsters Australia / 26.05.2010

After just over 6 days of racing XPD is hardly over, only the top 5 teams are decided and now refuelling at the Rydges in Cairns.Blackheart.com.au came home at 20.55 AEST last night, in a convincing win over their competition from home and abroad.
McCain Adventure Addicts of South Africa picked up the pace taking advantage of route choice to finish at 01.23 this morning (26/5). Merrell/Akali of the US dropped back to finish at 13.15 this afternoon in a relative sprint finish with City Bike Depot who came through at 14.41. Local team Starfactor rounded out the top 5 finishing at 16.28 this afternoon.
Twenty three teams are still racing ranked, one is short coursed (Trundlers) and has finished, ten are unranked and 8 unfortunately have recorded a DNF.
Flying the Kiwi flag Nga Rakua and Macpac Girls on Top are still ranked and racing, with Osprey Packs/niitelights.co.nz racing unranked.
Crowd favourites Goldfish are currently in 20th and are biking to Lake Tinaroo. Teams #5, 39, 12, 9, 44, 21, 47, 4 and 8 are on route to CP17 and the end of the long trek.
Team 30, 'Dukes of Hazzard', at present seem to be closer to the start of the paddle leg in their route choice to Mulligan and CP17.
Teams #16, 18, 32, 43, 11, 19, 46, 36 and 38 are on MTB en route to Lake Tinaroo. Teams #37, 15, 17, 6 and 23 are on Lake Tinaroo, while teams 13, 3, 20, 50, 34 and 33 are on the final trek to the finish.
We should have some stories soon from the teams as they filter out of HQ, and I am sure once they are rested and fed we will hear from them.
[Note: positioning of teams reached via SPOT as of 7pm 26/5/2010 AEST.]See All Event Posts
