XPD Cairns 2010 - a True Expeditionary Race

Twelve more teams successfully arrived at the finish line throughout the last day. The Canadian team, Race the Rockies (35), finished strong and still ‘irrepressibly positive’ during the wee hours of the morning (03:10) and after a quiet spell, around lunchtime the Dirty Avocados Adventure Racing (37) (11:30) and Waiting for Inspiration (19) (12:50) arrived back at Rydges for their bubbly and pizza treatment by the pool.

Ahead of the scheduled post race dinner and presentations at Rydges, the afternoon saw some close and steady arrivals closing off the last trekking leg down from Tinaroo on the Tablelands: Mawson (13) (14:30); Outward Bound Australia (28) (14:31); Macpac Girls On Top (36) (15:35); Wild Prawns (45) (15:47); DASH (29) (16:03); and Latitude 19 (46) (16:17).

As predicted, 3 teams arrived to be cheered in and congratulated by 200+ fellow racers and supporters attending the presentations. The reception each of these ranked teams received on entering the ballroom was incredibly passionate and full of respect and pride for these teams’ achievements and full commitment to the very end. Goldfish (11) were in first at 19:25 and then less than an hour later Team 4 Cancer (6) and the Yogi Bears (15) appeared together at 20:15.
