A Diverse and Demanding World Champs Course

The Bimbache Extrem (Castilla y León) 2010 race, is hosting the upcoming World Championships in less than 2 weeks time, and despite the usual course secrecy the organisers have released some details. They are promising a very dynamic race with continuous activity changes, which will increase its spectacular nature and the diversity of racing for all of the participants. <br /><br />The race will have a total of 24 sections and more than 90 check points which will test the team’s physical strength, orienteering and strategies abilities. During the race, competitors are expected to spend the following estimated percentages of time on these activities: <br /><br />
• Trekking + Orienteering: 8 sections – 40%<br /><br />
• Mtb: 7 sections – 35%<br /><br />
• Kayak: 3 sections – 20%<br /><br />
• In-line Skating: 3 sections – 3%<br /><br />
• Ropeworks: 3 sections – 2%<br /><br />
• Compulsory stop: 4 hours<br /><br />

The estimated time to complete the whole race is 85-90 non-stops hours and the deadline for last teams is 130 hours. The start will be at 8 o’clock in the morning in October 3rd and the meeting point will be in the city centre of Ávila. The first teams are expected to arrive at the finish at Salamanca between Thursday the 7th and Friday the 8th.<br /><br />
Staff have already commented on the level of difficulty of one of the rope work sections, which has several stretches of 100m long climbing/jumaring. Teams who are no judged skilled enough to complete this section will not be allowed to do it and will have to take a time penalty before continuing the race. This decision will be made in October the 1st during the pre-race equipment review. <br /><br />
<b>Prizes</b><br /><br />
Competitors at Bimbache Extrem – Castilla y León 2010 /World Championship will be racing for very interesting cash/race entry prizes. The World Championship winning team will get a cheque for 32.000 dollars and free registration to 7 Cerros Medellín Colombia, PER Chile 2011, Tierra Viva Argentina, AR Costa Rica 2011 and the AR European Championship 2011.<br /><br />
2nd and 3rd position will receive 10.000 and 5.000 dollars, and the free registration to the same races, while 4th and 5th positions will get 2.000 and 1.000 dollars respectively.<br /><br />
There are already over 60 confirmed entries in the race, representing the best international teams in the world from 30 different countries and 5 continents.<br /><br />
