As they headed out onto the first big bike stage of the race, the lead teams were keeping each other firmly in their sights. Out in the woods, around half way through the 75km stage, the leaders arrived in one large peloton. No surprise that Blackwater were sat in the middle of that bunch, that Buff Thermocool were also there, along with Silva-Gerber, DareDevils AR and Outdry-Chiru. Sweco, Orion, Adidas Terrex and Thule were not far behind that first bunch.
The stage was fast, taking the leaders a shade over four hours, having climbed up into the Sierra de Guadarrama, to a campsite above the village of Peguerinos. The racers arrived there as much the same pack, Buff Thermocool, Blackwater, Outdry-Chiru, Silva-Gerber and DareDevils AR first to their kit barrels. Buff Thermocool and Blackwater were the first to get their gear together and get out onto the first section of orienteering, with the others snapping at their heels.
