The morning rush-hour

After the nighttime arrival of Buff Thermocool and Blackwater, the dark zone on the river meant a quiet night in Salamanca. The morning brought a slow trickle then a torrent of teams exiting the Rio Torme, orienteering around the old town, then crossing the finish line in fine style.

First over, after riding into town by bike, were Finnish team Omjakon. They had had a difficult journey, firstly taking 36 hours of the long trek section due to navigational problems, then arriving at the final transition to kayak to find no boats available. They rode through the night and crossed the line at 8:30 to big cheers from the small crowd. Third placers Silva-Gerber arrived around half an hour behind them, after a long night on the riverbank not far from town. They have pushed on for the entirety of the race and looked tired but happy to be finished, as is to be expected.
