World Champions Win in Wales

Adventure Racings former world champions may have taken the crown in the Mens Pairs at Cardiff's first ever multi-sport event in Cardiff Bay on Sunday (24th) but local Welsh athletes were close on their heels.<br> <br> Light winds and plenty of sunshine was perfect for over 200 competitors in Cardiff Burn hosted by Multisport Wales and directed by the Vale of Glamorgan's adventure racing athlete Maria Leijerstam, Competitors from all over the UK and abroad ran 10k, cycled 35k and kayaked in the Bay for 3k.<br> <br> The Female Pairs was won by Cowbridge pilates teacher Debbie Cooke and Georgina Fleming from Bridgend. The Male Pairs was won by Nick Gracie from Richmond and Tom Gibbs from Chepstow. Mixed Pairs winners were husband and wife team Rachel and Chris Ayres from Tynant, Pontypridd. "We are into different activities, but we had never had the chance to put it all together before, which was great," said Rachel.<br> <br> Family pairs was won by Tom Lawson, and his 16 year old son David from Whitchurch. "It was quite challenging but I just managed to keep up with my son," said Tom who is hoping to run the Swansea Burn with his 14 year old daughter next June.<br> <br> The youngest competitor of the day was nine year old Luke who completed the course with his father Wade and adding a sparkle to the activities were James Stride from Coventry and Neil Antclisse from Litchfield both dressed as Pamela Andersson of Baywatch fame.<br> <br> Cardiff Burn series will continue in Swansea, Aberystwyth, Llandudno and Cardiff next year.See All Event Posts
