Huairasinchi ... Coming Soon
Natalia Greene / 13.02.2011

Globally recognized, Huairasinchi is one of the most important races in Latin America and the most important Ecuadorian race. The upcoming race will be better than ever, starting March 5th, with teams arriving at the finish line between the 7th and the 8th of March.

Race Director, Santiago López, states that this year, Huairasinchi will break all its records. It will be the most international Huairasinchi, with 13 countries represented. Teams from Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile, Australia, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, United States, Ireland, Switzerland, France and Ecuador have confirmed their participation. Definitely, the most competitive Huairasinchi ever!

2011 will be the year during which the largest number of racers will participate in Huairasinchi. 50 spots were offered by the organization, and 50 teams are officially registered. The race was sold out two months ago, total success!

As always, Huairasinchi’s route is secret and will be revealed the night of March 4th during the race briefing. However, Rodolfo Peralta, Route Director, assures us that this is one of the most impressive and wild routes he has ever prepared, 350 km long and taking advantage of Ecuador’s full potential. It will be in the highlands and warm lands, it will experience rapidly changing scenery and various ecosystems, and it will pass through indigenous communities, fully exploring one of the most biodiverse and culturally diverse countries in the world.

Racers are preparing their biking, trekking, kayaking and rope gear, finishing up their training schemes and improving their skills. Working with their group to get prepared and work as a team, carefully organizing each detail and planning their strategy, although everything can change once the route is revealed.

Team Ecuador is going to try to defend the title won last year against several very strong national and international teams, but many teams are aiming for Huairasinchi’s 2011 title. Of course, all teams will be happy to celebrate its accomplishment, enjoying its price and resting in the unique Galapagos’ Islands, home of Darwin’s Evolution Theory.

All registered teams are aiming at the first place and aspiring to classify for the AR World Championship in Tasmania in November 2011, as Huairasinchi is one of the 10 AR World Series Adventure Race members.

Huairasinchi will have an online website, www.huairasinchi.com.ec, which is going to be updated very frequently with pictures, videos, information about the race, and messages for the racers sent from family and friends, so be prepared to follow it every day and cheer for your favorite team. English language coverage will be carried exclusively right here on SleepMonsters.

Good luck to all teams in their preparation during these few days prior to Huairasinchi!
