Huairasinchi has already started and the eyes of the world are already on all its racers.

The Organization has asked the international teams to answer these two important questions to get to know them a bit more and know about their preparation towards Huairasinchi 2011:

1. How is your team getting prepared during these few days before the race?

2. What are your expectations for Huairasinchi 2011?

You can read some of the answers from our international teams below and get to know them better. This is a great chance to pick up your favorite team and follow it online during the race that will take place from the 5th until the 7th on March, 2011.

Martin Flinta for Thule Adventure Teams:

“We have been training really, for many years. Martin and Per have been cross-country skiing and running in deep snow a lot last month, now that it is winter in Sweden. Jacky and Mimi have been biking and running a lot in the mountains in Spain and France. We are going to Ecuador the week before the race for acclimatization for high altitude. In Ecuador we will have some easy training just to let our bodies get used to the high attitude.

Our main goal is to beat the current World Champion Buff Thermocool Team and to be the first team to cross the finish line and win! We are interested to feel the high altitude and see how our bodies work in the mountains. This is also the first AR race for the new Thule Adventure Team members together, so it is also a good chance for us to get to know each other and see how we work as a team.

To find out more about the team, look up: www.thuleadventureteam.com

Grant Killian for the APEX - Alpine Expedition Switzerland Team:

“There's concern on our team with the high altitudes we will reach during this race, and the possibility of altitude sickness. We've had our travel plans together for months now, so that's long behind us - instead we're going over the gear list on the website and trying to plan a sleep strategy for what we think the race could look like in March.

Santiago (Huairasinchi’s Race Director) came to Untamed New England in 2010 and told us first-hand about the biological diversity and natural beauty of Ecuador; he's a good salesman! We also sponsored the all-female team, "Untamed New England," that raced in 2010 Huairasinchi and they had great things to report about the race, the people, and the country of Ecuador. We're excited to come and see it for ourselves! One final item to note: we haven't raced an event which had a support crew in years, so it's possible that our backpacks may not be as heavy as at other races where we have no support and must be self-sufficient for the entire time. The fact we get to connect with local Ecuadorians as our support crew ensures that we have a genuine cultural experience and we're very grateful for their efforts! We're bringing them down some APEX expedition race t-shirts and other goodies from the USA and Switzerland.

Kristin Larsson for FJS;

Preparations have been going well in the last months. Arriving straight from sea level in Sweden, the greatest challenge for us will be the high altitude. We spent a weekend in the Alps a few weeks ago to get some feeling of the altitude, but apart from that we have prepared ourselves as for any other races by practising all disciplines and prepare our gears. We will arrive in Ecuador one week before the race start and we have planned to spend most of the time in the surroundings of Cotopaxi at 4000m elevation.

We have not raced in Ecuador before but the team has a positive experience from other races in South America such as the World Championship in Brazil and the AR series Patagonia. Our expectations on Huairasinchi are high and we are looking forward to experience the great diversity of the nature in Ecuador.
See All Event Posts
