International teams are arriving
The 6th edition of the Transmarocaine will start next Monday and teams have started to arrive at Marrakech Menara airport. After a night in a city hotel, organization and teams will take a four hour bus ride to Ourzazate. This is the first year that Sleepmonsters will be covering the race, organized by the French company Sphere Aventure, which is extremely popular amongst French adventure racing teams.

The Transmarocaine is a 5 day stage race open to teams of two with the team composition being single sex or mixed. It attracts top teams as well as new comers who want to discover Morocco. The race route is set-up to cater for all levels and the racers can tailor their race to their ambitions. This is done with a series of optional CPs. The disciplines will be mountain trekking, orienteering, bike and run and canoe in the Atlas mountains.
Looking at this years team list it looks like the competition will be intense amongst the mixed teams. They will have quite an act to follow as for the first time in its history the Transmarocaine was won last year by a mixed team, Wilsa, composed of Karine Baillet and Sebastien Sxay. Team Raidlight/Vertical with Sandrine Beranger and Denis Merlin finish consistently high in the rankings of several races in the ARWS and Vibram Lafuma is here as well, represented by Fanny Frechinet and Benoit Peyvel. Benoit is spot on in orientation and Fanny has the reputation of being a strong athlete. The mixed team of Salomon Raid Adventure also looks like they’ll be able to give the aforementioned teams a run for their money. Twelve mixed teams are taking part this year.

In total they are 44 teams set to start on Monday (the race is limited to 45 but one team had to withdraw at the last minute due to medical issues); 37 French teams, 1 Italian and 6 Moroccan.
