The North Face 100
Jornet and Quinn smash records to take titles
Media Release - Dave Meyer - AROC Sport / 30.05.2011

The pre-race talk had been centred on the Spanish superstar Killian Jornet and his team mates Francois D’Haene and Ryan Sandes. It seemed the question was not so much if Jornet would win but how fast would he go? Could he break 9hrs and obliterate the course record? While Jornet and his entourage had somewhat talked his form down due his lack of specific preparation he remarked in the week prior to the race that the course seemed ‘flat and fast’. Defending Champion and local hero, the quietly spoken Andrew Lee, had been seemingly forgotten in the discussions and perhaps it was this that spurred him to take the race to Jornet as he set a cracking pace from the start horn to lead Jornet for the better part of the first two legs. The exertion did take a toll though and by the time Jornet and Sandes passed through CP2 at Dunphy’s Camp Lee was 6 minutes down. He would eventually fade to finish 43rd but still had a smile across his face and commented that he loved the experience of matching with the leaders and would do it all again.
