Course Updates - Tuesday

For the first time for several days the weather has turned wet. During the night there was thunder and lighting and the heavens opened, with torrential downpours at Burnie, and around the course.

As the top teams come into Burnie to finish the remainder of the teams are moving into the second part of the course. Mid camp at Strahan has now closed with all continuing teams passed through there, including Real Discovery who have been a bit wayward in their progress! The last two teams left mid-camp around midnight.

Driftwood, Fully Rad to the Power of Sick and Five Ten have now all been transported back to Burnie, where they plan to make their own way to the start of the river paddle, so they get the chance to complete it while they are here.

Other news is that Team Rule5 have become unranked (not sure why) and SART withdrew at mid-camp due to an injury sustained in bike crash on the way into Strahan. Two teams members touched wheels and the race was over them. DASH are also withdrawn. They had one team member with an injury and their team philosophy is that they are either all in, or all out, so the team said ‘that’s enough’ and withdrew from the race as a unit.

Team Argentina also pulled out on the coastal trekking leg after the mid-camp and were returned to mid-camp. However, Danish racer Sessel Elmstrom wanted to go on and joined the remaining 3 members of Team Juggernaut ... so she did most of the long trek again, only to find her bike was not at Granville Harbour. The race organisation are trying to get it to her now.

On the Arthur River paddle the two Australian teams who missed a CP trekked all night to go back and get it, and finally arrived back at the transition at Kununnah at 04.20 in the morning.

Blackheart left first at 06.55 with City Bike Depot Adventure Junkies 9 minutes behind them. (Rob Preston of Blackheart and Kathryn Ewels of CBD are engaged, so they got to spend some time together on the race!)See All Event Posts
