The World Adventure Racing Championships (XPD Australia)
Last Call at Farquars
Rob Howard / 08.11.2011

The Transition at Farquars (CP41) is the only cut off on the race, and at 2pm today teams were stopped from continuing on the full course, simply because they would not have time to then finish within the 10 race limit.Since it opened the transition has seen some rain, and is much muddier now, but most of the bike and gear boxes are gone and there are still only a few teams the marshals are waiting for. These are Moxie Gear (90), Active Atoms (77), Tri-Adventure (56) and Team Toyota Costa Rica, though it seems likely the Active Atoms have bypassed here and ridden on to Burnie or Rocky Cape. It is getting harder to control the back of the race where stragglers are making up new teams, and teams are making up their own courses!
At Farquars just before 2pm, there were two teams in residence. Team Absolute Disorientation (59) were busy packing down their bikes and sorting out their food, camping and paddling gear. Strictly speaking teams have to be on the water by 2pm and that is a 6km walk from transition, but this team had been told they could go on. However, they will be the last ones on the water.
They are not a full course team, having already taken some short cuts, but really wanted to do the paddle and pushed to get here in time. “We spent a couple of nights out on the first big trek, said Warren Clark, and that slowed us up, but did all the CP’s to mid-camp and the next two, but after that we’ve taken the quickest way here so we could paddle. We originally thought we had to be here by 12.00 but met an official who told us we had until 2pm. We really want to do this stage. It’s not been too hard core, we’ve slept a lot and had a pub meal at Tullah last night!
The team were told they would use two plastic boats as there are no pumps for the inflatables any more, and set off down to the river just before 2pm.See All Event Posts
