The Corsica Raid wrapped up with a prize giving presentation at a vineyard out in the countryside, not far from the final campsite.  It had been used as a checkpoint earlier in the day, so teams had been there before and there was live music and a good supply of food and drink to ensure everyone could celebrate the completion of the race.

 

There were some impressive trophies to be won as well, and for the final time the race bibs for the winners, second and the top Corsican teams were awarded.  These were given out after all of the teams were invited up and given bags, bottles and packages of all kinds of Corsican produce as mementos, then the top 3 received the huge race trophies (all 3 bigger than any others I’ve seen), their own momentos, and also trophies and a medal for each team member from the AREuro Series, of which this race was the final.  

 

The winners, Vibram Lafuma, were also given a voucher for a free entry to the World Championships in France in September by Marek Navratil, who raced here with Team Opvanet and who has been instrumental in organising the AREuro Series.  It’s a valuable prize but the team are not sure they can race due to other personal and team commitments (and they have already won an entry with their victory in the French Championships!)  

 

Raid Quechua finished second and Czar Berghaus 3rd in the ‘Corsica 5’ race and the top ‘Corsica 3’ team by some distance were GMPA Raid, who were 4th in the overall ranking of both categories.
