Czech Adventure Race 2012
Czech Adventure Race Starts Today
Jan Smolik / 01.08.2012

The Wenger Czech Adventure Race 2012 starts on today on a course that is over 400 kilometers long will take competitors to the area of the Krušné Mountains. After several years in areas that were simply hilly The Czech Adventure Race is moving to the real mountains. There will really be no flat ground in this race!
The camp where the race is headquarterd is surrounded by looming hills from three sides and by the tower of coal power plant from the fourth. On the south from the racing area there are former coal mines. Competitors will be able to see them from the top of hills but they will not get there. However during one stage they will go around the fence of the powerplant. We will see whether this will be worse than high hills of Krušné Mountains!
Most of checkpoints are located on the tops of hills. As this is the border area of Czech Republic there are also many castles, or rather their ruins. Competitors will visit over ten castles. They will be culturally educated after the race.
There are thirteen teams entering the race. Two of them are foreign. Vertical Disidents who are Brits turned Dutch and have experience from last year. They are always in the great mood. Last year they had big problems with the inline skating sections. This year there are almost none. The Spanish team is a big unknown for us. They are apparently experienced and very strong, but we do not know the - so we rank them among favorites of the race.
Among the Czech teams, Berghaus/Accom /Merida and Czech Addidas Terrex will be very strong. They are both using this race as a preparation for the World Champs. However out of 11 Czech teams, only three do not have experience from racing abroad. Czech adventure racing has made a lot of progress in a last decade. When first Czech Adventure Race was organized back in 2004, all the competitors were novices. Now, there are 8 experienced teams.
Anyway, this race will be fun to follow. There are favorites, but there will be four or five teams strongly pushing on them from behind. We will bring you complete coverage here on SleepMonsters and results will be published as they happen on www.adventurerace.cz/live
