Clearing the Cowboy Tough Course

Randy Eriksen / 23.07.2013See All Event Posts Follow Event

When race director Mark Harris told the teams before the Cameco Cowboy Tough adventure race that "no one would clear the course" the gauntlet was thrown. 3 and a half days later 3 teams proved him wrong.  Tecnu Adventure Race,Yogaslackers/Gearjunkie, and Untamed New England got all 90 CPs. Dart nuun came so close, only missing two on the last night orienteering course.

Day 4 dawned early. Before dawn. At 4 am the teams started a 14 mile bike to the canoe put in on the North Platte river. From there they had a 22 mile trip to the Casper Whitewater Park and transitione to river boards. Most of the teams had been looking forward to this section, one because it will be a relief from the hot weather and it is the finish.

As hard as all the racers said the race was, only 2 racers dropped out. Both were sick.

All of the Teams like the "End of Day, Start of Day" format. The fast teams like Tecnu and Untamed got 4-5 hours of sleep each night. Most of the other teams raced all night long. Often coming in to the TA as the others were leaving for the day.

The Cameco Cowboy Tough will be returning next year. The race organizers,Rev3 Adventure Racing along with the State of Wyoming and title sponsor Cameco have a 5 year contract. The next 3 years will be 3 and a half day races starting in different parts of the state, all ending in Casper. The 5th year will be a 7-10 day race covering the entire state.
