Four Adventures And One Goal – The 2014 SALOMON 4 TRAILS

News Release / 04.02.2014See All Event Posts Follow Event

Ready at last July 9 to 12, 2014: The SALOMON 4 TRAILS are entering the fourth round, which will be no less demanding than the previous ones. The race boasts an elevation gain of more than 9,000 meters (29,527 feet) over almost 160 kilometers (100 miles) in four segments. Ambitious trail runners and pros will take on the challenge of an Alpine crossing, overcoming personal limits and geographical boundaries.

This year as well, the SALOMON 4 TRAILS will start in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria. From there, the route will lead to Ehrwald, Imst and Landeck in Tyrol, Austria and then continue to Samnaun in Switzerland.

The Alpine landscape with its richness in variety and grandiose trails against a breathtaking mountain panorama will compensate the long-distance runners for the exertions of the race. They must complete 160 kilometers (100 miles) and achieve an elevation gain of 9,800 meters (32,152 feet) in four days.

Each of the four segments encompasses 30 to 45 kilometers (18 to 24 miles) and more than 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) of elevation gain.

Participants will need to be physically fit and sure-footed with excellent coordination in the high alpine terrain. The athletes will need their whole repertoire of running skills to master the steep climbs and navigate the narrow trails including sections with drop-offs. The trials and tribulations of the four days, though, will all be forgotten at the Finisher Party at the latest!

Last year, the Mallorcan Tofol Castanyer was the first to celebrate, after exactly 16 hours, 15 minutes and 11 seconds of pure running time. The German runner Philipp Reiter is certain to be one of the aspirants for the title this year. The runner from the SALOMON team won the SALOMON ZUGSPITZ ULTRATRAIL last year and has already registered for the 2014 SALOMON 4 TRAILS.

In 2013, 500 runners from 25 nations took on the SALOMON 4 TRAILS challenge – a new record number of participants! Since the premiere in 2010, the SALOMON 4 TRAILS has developed into an international top event where elite trail runners enjoy a rendezvous in the Alps.

Fans, friends and family will also find many attractions. There will be many opportunities to be active besides the Expo with the latest trends and products by well-known manufacturers. For example, all those who are not yet ready to tackle all four segments can sign up for the taster segment from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Ehrwald.
