The sixth edition of the Bike Buller MTB Festival presented by Kona is set to hit Mt Buller’s world class mountain biking tracks in two weeks’ time, over the labour day long weekend of March 8-10, 2014.

Regarded by many as one of Australia’s most revolutionary MTB events, Gravity Enduro World Series rider for GIANT, Josh Carlson said “Bike Buller is by far one of my favourite events to do in the World!”

The unique event brings together a variety of cross country (XC), all mountain courses, and popular Super D style races to one spectacular location with competitors attracted from across Australia.

Chris Jenkins of North Hobart in Tasmania is back for another year.

“Last year was my first Bike Buller event and I loved it!” said Jenkins. “Am looking forward to giving it another go.”

The event provides eager mountain bike riders of all abilities, and their families a massive weekend of bikes, single track, fresh air, activities and partying.

“My mates and I love XC mountain biking,” said Mark Zylan (Croydon, VIC). “We’re all dads with young kids so this is our chance to get away and ride hard and fast!”

The festival has become one of the fastest growing mountain biking events on the calendar, growing from a first year attendance of 220, to 700 riders in 2013.

“We can’t wait for the Bike Buller MTB Festival to hit the mountain again. It’s definitely our signature mountain bike event, with a great vibe, awesome stages for all levels and plenty for the non-riders too.” said Gillian Dobson Marketing and Communications Manager for Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management.

For 2014, the addition of the new Flow Pump Track Pursuit is proving popular.

The Flow Pump Track Pursuit will take place on the Saturday evening as a head-to-head pursuit style format that will make for incredible watching and impressive riding.

“This year promises even more action with the addition of the Pump Track Pursuit on our brand spanking modular track right in the heart of the Mt Buller Village – it’ll definitely be a highlight of the weekend!” said Dobson.

The event weekend features a choice of 35km or 50km cross-country (XC)  route over Mt Stirling and back as Stage 1; Stage 2 the Mavic Crossmax Enduro utilises the ski lifts for a 4.5hr multi-lap downhill circuit before sending riders flying off down the hill to finish at the ‘Picnic in the Park’; Stage 2b the Super-D, is a flowing 12km 1100 metre vertical descent, also finishing at Mirrimbah; and finally Monday’s Stage 3 finale, the Cornhill Cranker, is a 22km XC that uses parts of the Copperhead Trail.

Competitors can attack the weekend as a stage race doing all races, or chose to do one or more of the races separately. Plus there’s a kid’s race included on theSaturday.

With entries on track once again for record numbers, and 30% of entries hailing from non-Victorian residents, it’s easy to see why this event weekend is one of the most popular amongst the mountain biking community.
