Silva 10 Trail Series
Silva10 Trail Run: Race Report
News Release (Open Adventure) / 04.03.2014

The 2nd race of the Silva 10k Trail Series night runs took place at Cannock Chase on Saturday evening with 130 runners lining up at the start, all sporting illuminating head torches.
The 10km route was well signed with reflective arrows directing runners around the circular course, which took in the delights of Devil's Dumble - a long steady climb to the top of Coppice Hill, before heading back down to the flatter riverside Sherbrook Valley track. The return route took in a section of the Heart of England Way before returning to Milford Common and the finish line.
Running in the dark definitely adds a bit of spice to the run, with runners having to focus not only on the terrain underfoot, but also the environment around them, while looking out for the next reflective arrow and aiming their beam of head light into the night sky to see the next twist and turn or the long awaited hill summit.
Once away from the street lights and into the pitch black of the Chase, senses become heightened and on occasions imaginations can work overtime! But as one runner said, 'the best thing is that you can't see the top of the hills, so you just keep going'.
The men's race had a clear winner, with Bruce Duncan, of Team Haglöfs Silva coming home in a time of 40:36, almost a minute ahead of 2nd placed Craig Rowley, who was around a minute and a half ahead of 3rd placed Matthew Andrews.
In the ladies race Laura Palmer finished in 51:49 with a great lead of 3 minutes over 2nd placed Julie Moor (54:49), who also won the first lady 40+ category. In third place was Jenny Allen in 58:00.
Prizes were awarded to the first three men & women and the first male and first female 40+, 50+ and 60+ age category. Each won great head torches from Silva.
