X-Adventure, Dunsborough - Australia’s biggest off-road triathlon - will see 1,500 multisport participants head to Dunsborough, Western Australia this weekend, 23 to 24 March, 2014.

X-Adventure is a cross between a triathlon and adventure race, combining ocean swimming, trail running and mountain bike riding. It will be held on a spectacular course through Dunsborough’s wilderness paradise in the heart of the beautiful Meelup Regional Park.

The X-Adventure Long Course consists of a 1500m ocean swim, 12km coast and trail run, and a 22km mountain bike. The event also offers a shorter distance specifically designed for those new to the sport; as well as a tailored children’s race, the X-Adventure Kids, for tomorrow’s multisport stars.

The race has drawn entries from the local area, as well as numerous visitors from across Australia.

Amongst the field are several husband and wife duos; friends participating in a triathlon for the first time; seasoned adventure races; and numerous school groups. The field also includes elite athletes such as 12-time XTERRA World Tour Race Champion Ben Allen and 6-time XTERRA World Tour Race Champion Jacqui Slack.Jacqui Slack, from Stoke on Trent in the UK, said she’s really looking forward to the weekend.

“I’ve never been to Western Australia before but I’ve heard so much about it and can’t wait for the ocean swim,” Jacqui said.

“The 12km coast and trail run involves a lot of rock hopping, which will be a new challenge for me.
“I’m also looking forward to the different format with the swim, the run and then finishing with the bike,” she said.
Ben Allen said he’s looking forward to returning to the Western Australian coastline to compete, having raced previously in the Augusta Adventure Fest.

“I love racing in the beautiful natural landscapes that are unique to the Australian coastline, and the challenging natural obstacles this provides during the race,” Ben said.

“In the lead up to the race this week I’m trying to stay relaxed and replenish my energy stores to maximise my performance come race day.

“My advice to new competitors is to expect the unexpected and race with an open mind to embrace the ever changing environment,” he said.

Online entries for X-Adventure close at 9am (AEST) Wednesday 19 March; with limited entries available in person during registration at the event on Saturday 22 March. Interested competitors can be part of the X-factor as an individual or relay team member in the long, short or kid’s race. For race details and entries visit www.X-Adventure.com.au

Participants will swim in an ocean of turquoise water, run along a sculpted granite coastline interspersed with golden sandy beaches, and mountain bike on roller coaster single track through fields of wildflowers and native grasstrees, meaning they will hardly notice the pain in their legs brought on by the rigorous course.

After the race, participants can soak up the great event atmosphere created by the large spectator crowd expected, a sponsor expo and the friendly hospitality of the event venue, Dunsborough and Districts Country Club.
