Day 1: X-Adventure Short Course and X-Adventure Kids - Saturday 22nd March, 2014
Day 1 of the X-Adventure, Dunsborough off-road triathlon saw 1,600 athletes take on the Short Course, and over 350 children ranging from 6 years of age to 17, take on the Kids X-Adventure. The highlight of the day was by far the run course – rated as one of the most spectacular, challenging and rewarding run courses along the coast of Dunsborough; over rocks, across sandy beaches, and into the water jump. X-Adventure Short Course athletes took on a 700m ocean swim, 6km coastal run, and a 12km mountain bike to the finish line at the official race venue, the Dunsborough Country Club.
With a strong lead going into the mountain bike leg, Peter Fisher from South Perth took victory in the X-Adventure Short Course, in a time of 1:31:12. In the female category, it was local girl Jessica Reynolds first across the line, in a time of 1:37:26. The Kids X-Adventure of a 200m ocean swim, 2.5km coastal run and 4km mountain bike, was keenly watched by an excited crowd of supporting parents and friends.
First across the line was Alec Davison from Freemantle in the U13 category, in a time of 34:35. He was followed by brothers - and fierce rivals on the course - Ben and Max McCallum in second and third place respectively. For the girls, it was Demi Elliott from Nannup in first place, in a time of 39:53. The races started on the beach near the old boat ramp at Dunsborough and finished at the official race venue Dunsborough Country Club. Day 2 of X-Adventure on Sunday 23rd March hosts the headline act of the weekend, the X-Adventure Long Course: a 1500m ocean swim, 12km coastal trail run and 22km mountain bike.
Here’s what some of the winners said about their experiences on course today. Peter Fisher, South Perth - X-Adventure Short Course (Overall Male Winner) “The run is my favourite leg so I was really looking forward to it. “The whole time I was in fear of the next person coming from behind me so I just kept going as hard as I could.” Jessica Reynolds, Dunsborough - X-Adventure Short Course (Overall Female Winner) “I’m a little bit spent!
“I live here so it’s a bit of an advantage being able to train on the course but I never thought I’d win. “I was determined not to let any of the women past me, nor any man for that matter!” Alec Davison – Kids X-Adventure (Overall Male Winner) “It was hard but fun.
“Mum did the Short Course this morning and said it was really good and that I’d love it, so she helped inspire me.” Demi Elliott – Kids X-Adventure (Overall Female Winner) “I really liked the running part along the beach. “And I like to thank mum and dad for bringing me here.”
