Sprint Finish to the Spanish AR Championships After 24 Hours

The Spanish Adventure Racing Championship at the Raid Adventure Gallaecia 2014 had the closest of finishes between the top Spanish teams last weekend. Just 2 seconds after 24 hours!

In total 56 teams from all over Spain took part. The race started last Saturday at 9am at Xermade , running through some places in Xermade, then Manon , Grañas do Sor, Espasante Stake Bars , O Vicedo , Ourol and Muras .

After a tough 24 hours of non-stop competition in which teams had to tackle a route of 217 kms with 6100 meters of altitude gain, the first teams reached the finish around 7 am.

The race was divided into 9 sections; trekking, mountain biking and kayaking, where navigation was the key to the differences in the ranking of the teams, especially in the night stages  where the difficulty of the navigation increased .

The winners of the Elite category were the Silva Camelback team, consisting of Angel Garcia, Aurelio Olivar and Monica Aguilera, a Salamanca/Catalan team which took a total of 22 hours and 39 minutes to complete the route.  In a race for the line their winning margin was just 2 seconds over Team Buff Adventure Addicts from Corun, consisting of Fran Costoya , Damian Ramos and Veronica Montes .

the teams had a tough battle throughout the raid to reach the finish line together, and the narrow winning margin reflects that competition throughout the Raid.

Closing the podium in the Elite were Team Vidaraid Columbia, a Basque and Galician team who are currently world runners-up. Their team was Jon Ander Arambalza, Urtzi Churches and Paula Mayobre.

In the Adventure category  the winners were Team Raid Estella Navarra.
