EPO Survival – 13hrs in the Czech Republic

Press Release / 06.06.2014See All Event Posts Follow Event

250 competitors ran in the 13 hours long EPO Survival race, International Championship of the Czech Republic. The event was a pairs only affair with the first and only compulsory discipline leading teams to a famous Czech castle Karlstejn and back. After that all teams had to plan their routes individually. The race begun.

Some pairs went straight for the canoes and CPs along the river including one CP, where one team member was required to abseils from a bridge back into the canoe. Some other teams went for the in-line skating, rock climbing and trekking loop and the rest decided to go for the MTB, orienteering, biathlon and bolscross loop first.

For every CP or discipline the competitors gained points – even for coming into the finish under the time limit. This system is challenging for everyone. Not only skilled competitors but also those trying this format for the first time - could enjoy the race.

Torrential rains during the the race made competing even more difficult – the routes for climbing were slippery, track for bolscross (obstacle up´n down running & swimming) was muddy, and the mat for the biathlon shooting was one big pool! But the competitors didn't seem to mind the worsening conditions and still did their best to collect as many points in 13 hours as they could.

In the MEN's and MIX'd cathegory members of the Czech Adventure Team (here team Salomon Suunto: Tomáš Petreček, Jarda Krajník and Pavel Kurz, Barbora Válková) retained their title from last year.
