Huairasinchi - The 2014 Adventure Racing World Championships
A General Penalty is Issued to Most Teams
Rob Howard / 11.11.2014
After teams took a route near TA3 which was contrary to the race instructions the race jury has met and issued a 4 hours penalty to the majorty of teams.
It seems only 3 teams went the right way! (Haglofs Silva, Seagate and Team Poland.)
Ironically it was Haglofs Silva, who then withdrew from the race, who made the first protest to Race Planner Rodolfo Peralta at TA3. They'd seen teams on the wrong side of the river and while it was easy and obvious to follow the road into transition it did cross the river and this was forbidden.
There wasn't any vagueness in the instruction. It said, "The path you must use has the Oyacachi River always at your left hand. It is prohibited to cross to the other side of the river."
This is the full statement on the penatly from the Race Director.
Monday’s night, November 10th, members who conform the JURY of HUAIRASINCHI Explorer 2014 AR World Championship, decided to apply a general penalty for the teams who are participating in the race and missed an important indication specified in the road book.
During the leg 3, El Chaco-Oyacachi, teams should have advanced taking into account that the river should always remain at their left side, without crossing the river. Most teams violated this rule, while only three teams, took it into account. In doing so, they took longer to complete this stage. This was indicated to the Organization and verified, team-by-team, through the YB tracker system.
It is for this reason that, after a study of the circumstances regarding this rule violation, taking into account that teams who did it had an advantage over teams that were considered to respect and comply with the proposed conditions of the game, the race’s Jury decided to intervene to balance up the game amount teams.
Thus, teams who did not comply with the indication stated in their route book will receive a penalty of four hours, which they should pay at TA5 located in Meridiano, where they will change discipline to start the second longest part of the competition of the ARWC Huairasinchi 2014. - Race Director
